A little about us.

James began his photography career in the 1990’s after a graduating from a small art school in Providence, Rhode Island. After graduation, James went on to assist various photographers in New York City where he eventually explored the world of wedding and portrait photography. James found a studio in Manhattan that he admired and began the journey of learning the more editorial and photo-journalistic approach to event photography, which immediately appealed to him as an artist. James was hired as a staff photographer for one of the largest wedding/portrait studios in the state and a little over a year later was the principle photographer, handling customers at three studio locations that spanned New York and Connecticut. After photographing countless events and portrait sessions for the NYC-based company, James decided it was time to start his own company and formed James Michael Photographers. Over the years, James has also been commissioned by a number of celebrity clients such as James Earl Jones, Hillary Clinton, and Chevy Chase to name a few.

Over the last 20 years, James has built a team that has been photographing weddings, family portraits, corporate events and commercial projects throughout the northeast. The JMP Team loves that they get to play such a big role in preserving some of life's most important moments and continue to push themselves to become better visual story tellers with each passing year.

In recent days, James is focused on family portraits, children’s portraits and environmental stylized portraits. James also takes a limited number of event commissions, usually capping his personal event assignment number to 8 events per year. This ensures that every event client receives the attention they deserve.
